Roopkund trek

Roopkund is situated in Chamoli district of garhwal. This area is usually called is the ‘mystery lake’, since human skeletons and remains of horses from the poleolithic age were found here. The lake is surrounded by rock-strewn glacier and snow clad peaks. The starting point of the trek is lohajung, easily approached by motor from Almora. Roopkund can also be reached by ghat, connected by a motorable road with Nanda Prayag situated on the main highway of Badrinath. The trek of Roopkund passes through lushgreen grassy land and conifer forest clining into the sloper of hills. The trek thereafter winds its way along the pindar river. Then to round off this trek, one can approach hemkund via Shail Samundras glacier and then move on ghat. Bedni bugyal and Bhagwawasa are the most beautiful places in this trek. You must found lots of “Bramhakamal” near Bhawawara. The best time of come here is last week of August to last week of October. You must have 8 days to trekking for Roopkund. It is a 40km trek from road head.

01 DELHI
Arrival in Delhi and transfer to Hotel. Combined sightseeing of Old and New Delhi. Visiting Red Fort, Jama Masjid , Qutab Minar, Shanti van, Raj Ghat , and pass through India Gate and Parliament House and President’s Estate.

02 DELHI/NAINITAL (1938 m)
Drive 303 km/8 hr. Nainital is a hill station set around Naini Lake, named after Naina (eyes) of Parvati, Lord Shiva’s wife. It is believed that emerald lake is one of the green eyes of her. Overnight in guest house/hotel.

03 NAINITAL
In the morning we make an excursion to Naina Peak also known as China Peak (2610 m) from where we have a glimpse of Himalayan peaks including Nanda Devi (7826 m). Nanda Devi is the highest peak of Kumaon. Later in the afternoon drive around other lakes of Nainital like Bhimtal, Sat Tal and Naukuchia Tal. ‘Tal’ means Lake in Hindi language. During summer months Nainital is a popular Hill Resort.

04 NAINITAL/DEBAL (1218 m)
Drive approximately 182 km to Debal via Kausani and Gwaldam. En route we will enjoy the scenic beauty of terraced fields, villages and snow clad Himalayan Mountains at distant horizon we can still see Nanda Devi sometime en route and also Trishul and other peaks. O/N in tents.

05 DEBAL/MANDOLI/DIDINA (2439 m)
Drive 24 km/1-1/2 hrs. on the rough road to Mandoli by jeep . Then we start our trek to Didina village. First 1-1/2 hours almost levelled walk through villages then steep ascent till Didina village. 4/5 hr trek. O/N Tents.

06 DIDINA/BEDINI BUGYAL (3350 m)
Today is a steep trek through oak trees and bamboo shrubs up to Ali Bugyal. From here we walk over Ali Bugyal enjoying the view of Himalayan peaks till we arrive Bedni Bugyal. Bugyal means meadow in Garhwali dialect. From Bedni Bugyal we can have a view of Mt. Nanda Ghunti, Trishul massif and also peaks on the north of Garhwal.

07 Bedni Bugyal
Rest day for acclimatization/Exploratory day. Overnight in tents.

08 Bedni Bugyal – Bagubassa (4100 m)
After breakfast trek to Bagubassa. Bagua means flowery park and Basa means place. And rightly the place was full of variety of flowers including the rare Bhram Kamal, a special godly lotus found at only and between the altitudes of 14000 – 15000 ft. Today we will trek 10 km, taking about 4-5 hrs to reach today’s campsite at Bagubassa. Dinner and overnight in tents.

09 Bagubassa – Roopkund (4450 mts/14600 ft) – Bedni Bugyal
Bhagubasa to Roopkund is easy walking in the flat but in morens ½ hour climbing with same view as last day. (4-5 hours). Kaluka Vinayak (pass) descending till to patar nachwani. The trek to Roopkund passes through delightful alpine pasture lands and snow fields, offering magnificent views of the Trisul, Nanda Ghunti, Badrinath peaks when the snow melts, human and equine skeletons remains can be seen. Some of them with flesh attached. These remains have been preserved in the alpine condition for centuries. It is believed that these are the remains of about 300 persons who died about 500 -600 years ago. In the afternoon trek back to Bedni Bugyal for dinner and overnight stay.

10 Bedni Bugyal – Wan (2436 M)
Retrace your steps towards Wan. This will take 3-4 hrs. Dinner and overnight in tents.

11 Wan – Rishikesh (2200 mts /7200 ft)
After an early breakfast drive to Rishikesh. Lunch enroute. Arrival at Rishikesh by evening. Upon arrival check into hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

12 RISHIKESH
Sightseeing of Ashrams, Ghats, Yoga Centre in the morning. Afternoon free.

13 RISHIKESH/DELHI
Drive 225 km/6 hr via Haridwar. En route small stop at Haridwar for sightseeing.

14 DELHI/DEPARTURE
Transfer to the International Airport.
